About Amy

Amy Wells is an acrylic painter based in Sweet Home Alabama, whose work is deeply inspired by nature, fly fishing, and the serene beauty of trout-filled waters. With a lifelong passion for art running through her family—her grandmother and great aunt being painters—Amy found her creative roots early. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in 2008, exploring various artistic disciplines throughout her education.

After spending eight years behind a desk, attempting to conform to societies’ norms, Amy finally made the decision to step away from corporate life to raise her daughter and fully embrace her dream of becoming a full-time artist. Her work reflects a deep respect for the environment, and she actively contributes to charities dedicated to water conservation and keeping nature pristine. Through her art, Amy continues to merge creativity with advocacy, capturing the beauty of the outdoors while supporting efforts to preserve it for future generations.

Artist Statement

Nature has always been my sanctuary—an endless source of inspiration and emotion. Whether I am at home in the lush mossy woods or hiking the mountains and playing in the water, my mind is always looking for my next subject. My work embodies the outdoor adventures I’ve had with my loved ones. My artwork includes many natural elements from the steel frame that we weld and patina, to the wood and stretched canvas that I paint on.

My journey as an artist deepened when I discovered fly fishing, a pursuit that connected me intimately to the elusive beauty beneath the water’s surface. Fish are one of the greatest challenges to paint, in my opinion. I use acrylic paint to embrace this challenge of capturing the vibrant, color-changing skin of these remarkable creatures, honoring their grace and fleeting presence. Influenced by the precision found in scientific journals, I approach each piece with meticulous attention to detail, showcasing a client’s special catch at the center of a blank canvas. This minimalist composition highlights the fish’s singular beauty, transforming the moment into an heirloom-quality artwork meant to be cherished and passed down for generations.

I hold a BA in Art and have dedicated my craft to celebrating both the artistry of nature and the legacy of angling. In gratitude for the great outdoors that sustain this passion, 10% of all proceeds are donated to water and nature preservation charities—an effort to give back to the very ecosystems that inspire my work.
